The Residential Buildings Tool explores the potential of space sharing as a circular economy strategy for the European residential building sector. It examines how changes in occupants’ willingness to share space could lead to more efficient use of residential floor area and consequently reduce the need for new residential construction.
The tool compares a baseline scenario with three alternative levels of willingness to share: strong, medium and slight, based on the CO₂NSTRUCT citizen behaviour survey. Users can investigate how these scenarios affect building stock, operational energy consumption and CO₂ emissions across European countries.
An interactive European map is connected directly to graphical results and detailed datasets, allowing users to select countries, compare scenarios and explore both absolute values and potential percentage savings.
